WE ARE LOOKING FOR ANIMAL-CARE VOLUNTEERS!
Who loves animals? Who loves animals, nature, fresh air, dirt, commaraderie, (and doesnt mind poop), knows how to clean,
and has some available time during the week? Do you have a skillset, or have you ever wanted to learn~ about caring for birds? Bats? Horses? Reptiles? Sloths? Rare and fragile species??
The growing and learning possibilities in a multi-species facility such as ours are almost endless!
Animal care is a 7/365 task around here and this winter has been particularly challenging.
Animal care is physical work that is rain or shine - animals need care no matter what the weather.
Formal experience isnt necessary, but some animal care understanding, (personal pets incl), is a leg up. Animal care can be fun, and is definitely rewarding, but it is WORK!
This is an educational opportunity for those that are interested in working in any facet of the animal-care industry, those that have left it but still want to be involved, and retirees from any field that want to remain active. We do offer internships for H.S. and college credit as well! Our interns have gone on to many areas of the field, including, veterinary medicine, private facilities, canine care, AZA zoos, and even international scientific study. With the diversity of our rare-species base, the detailed and comprehensive training pertaining to federal regulations, and honing health/risk assessment skills,("the read" we call it), learning the subtleties under our tutelage will help you be competitive for almost any role in the field.
Opportunities for all include learning about species' special needs, diets, enrichment, and health assessments, as well as testing your mental (and physical) strengths and challenges. Forging relationships with the animals is just part of the fun.**
We have current flexibility/need 7 days a week with start times available from 9 am-12pm (minimum of 4 hrs a week up to as many as wanted, or as needed for internships and more formal training), which will narrow as spots are filled.
If you've ever wanted to be a part of something bigger, come join us in cultivating the joy!
**please note: Animal care is work - fun and rewarding, but work all the same. It is raking, bending, lifting, checking, and "preening" the enclosures. It is not simply playing with animals all day, (however, forging these relationships is a definite perk). We have had applicants in the past that did not realize the physical labor involved. Must be 18 or older, able to safely and comfortably lift #25, reliable method of transportation (continuity, so we can maintain certain structure, is important).
If you would like to set up an appt. for us to meet with you, please email us @ worlds1stpeacepark@gmail.com
and tell us a bit about yourself as well as your availability. Also please include whether you have been to the park before. We want everyone to walk through and see what they see, and how they feel so we know that they feel aligned and inspired by what they find inside these gates.
Look forward to meeting everyone!
